Frilly Lilly Boutique – Spaphile Review

Spaphile’s Health and Beauty insider, Jessica Garvey of The Hostess Handbook, introduces us to a whimsical boutique called Frilly Lilly.

This uber feminine boutique is now open on Montana Ave in Santa Monica.  The location is super cute with a shabby chic atmosphere that is inviting and homey! They specialize in waxing, and have a full range of bath and body products that are to die for! Try the Frilly Lilly body butter in Butter Cream. It is YUMazing and has a deep moisturizing effect. The boutique also has bath and body products that are perfect for gifts like these bathcakes! What a wonderful relaxing treat!

Frilly Lilly has something I like to call the master waxer. Sort of like a master chef but for waxing. This boutique really knows what they are doing and it seems as though they have it down to an art. The location is clean as a whistle and all the staff have years of experience. It really is a must try if you have not been yet!

With all the buzz around this Frilly Lilly shop you should definitely make an appointment and see for yourself what its all about!

Spaphile’s Night of Beauty (Part III) Event Recap

At the gorgeous Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, Spaphile hosted their third Night of Beauty event on Monday December third. This was a beautiful event, filled with color, entertainment, and lots of fun!

Hosting the event at the Viceroy  was a wonderful choice; the beautiful and sleek hotel was a perfect compliment to all of the fabulous beauty and health products being featured. Once you picked up a complimentary drink and gift bag– which this writer couldn’t help but look into right away, and trust me, it was great! I’m wearing the OPI nail polish color– you could walk around the pool, sample fresh Juice Crafters samples strong in anti-oxidants, Pretzel Crisps, and yummy Georgetown Cupcakes– a new addition to the LA cupcake scene.

Inside there were even more yummy treats– the kind for your face, hair, nails, and wardrobe! There were vendors from online clothing stores offering deals for the coming Spring fashions, stations set up for getting your make-up done (from Blushington) and nails (from Bellacures and Nail Garden). You could get your brows down (from waxing boutique, Frilly Lilly), or hair curled (from Byuti Salons) or braided (from TheBroot) like I did, pick up some skin care products (from Skin Owl), and get massages (from Bliss Spa).

Spaphile attends the Ziba Beauty Event at Fred Segal!

Last Thursday night, we at Spaphile had an amazing time at the Ziba Beauty event at Fred Segal in Santa Monica. Ziba is celebrating their 25th year operating 15 studios that shape over 1 million brows per year, a beauty trend that is quickly catching on.  “It’s an exciting time for us as a brand because we are poised to kick off our global growth objectives” says Sumita Batra, CEO of Ziba Beauty. “The opportunity to launch in partnership with New Beauty at Fred Segal expands on our creative concept to reach a wider client base via a store-in-store option. We couldn’t be more thrilled and look forward to great success with this initiative!”

The event took up an area in beautiful Fred Segal– their NewBeauty space, and the first thing you saw when you walked through the door was a featured section for a quick and thorough brow threading. Beyond the brow threading was a woman putting beautiful henna designs, also known Mendhi, on people, and I very quickly put my name on that list, and by the end of the night, I was carefully cradling my right arm so that the peacock she had drawn didn’t smudge. Mendhi has many different uses, and depending on the country, can be used to mark important events in peoples lives, such as weddings and other coming of age events. The design and placement of it on the body can hold a lot of meaning and importance for the individual and the event as well.

Ziba is paying attention to more than just brows, and has their own line of skincare, cosmetics, and body art, which was clear from the moment you entered the space and were offered a bindi– an adornment of bright red color typically worn in the center of the forehead. I chose two pink jewels– one in the outer corner of each eye. The emphasis on adorning the body with more than just makeup was unique and exciting. In one section of the room there were Fred Segal stylists curling hair– yes, I got mine done as well, and then quickly bought myself a curling iron.

The body art, hair styling, gift bag, specialty drinks and beautiful displays of products showcased throughout the space made the night inviting, exciting, and incredibly enjoyable. This was a fabulous event, and Spaphile.com looks forward to many more with both Fred Segal and Ziba Beauty.

Sechoir Plus Review

Spaphile contributor, Rachel Nahmias (who also writes for One Part Gypsy), reviews Spaphile featured salon, Sechoir Plus.

After jumping on the ombre bandwagon in July, I loved my lightened tips.  But unfortunately, they shared not only the hue of straw, but the texture too. And after all the time spent trying to grow my hair, the recommended option of cutting it was the last thing I wanted.

Fortunately, Sechoir Plus, the Montana Avenue Aveda-concept salon had just the answer– a deep conditioning treatment and scalp massage to restore and revive followed by a blow-out to prove my hair still has its groove.

I was greeted by Molly, who is a favorite for her effective and thorough washes. A double shampoo got rid of any build-up before a botanical therapy coated my strands from root to scalp. While it soaked in, Molly massaged my scalp so completely, I actually thought it was the special scalp service! (Turns out, this is all just part of the renown Molly-wash experience.) After rinsing the deep treatment out, my hair was shampooed a third time (as to not weigh down the root) and then sprayed with a light leave-in conditioner.

Although this would have been enough for a 5-star review, we weren’t done yet. It was then over to meet with Sechoir’s owner, Nava, who combined education and luxury service with their signature scalp therapy. When she first told me that that she thinks of hair styling as farming, I thought I had heard her wrong. But as it turns out, the two are quite similar.

Just as we plow our fields and rake our yards, our scalp too needs to be invigorated in order to loosen the build-up that forms around the hairs. This way, old hairs can fall out, and new growth can sprout in its place. To help accelerate the exfoliating process, Nava used Aveda’s Invati Scalp Revitalizer, which utilizes naturally warming ingredients such as ginseng, cinnamon and turmeric to create heat and energize the follicles.

Once my scalp was free and clear of anything that might get in the way of stand-up locks, a round brush was used to build volume. I opted for their “Ooh La La” style, a blend of bouncy curls and natural waves, and left with a truly transformed head of hair.

A tingling scalp the day after was a reminder of the great fall-cleaning and nearly a week later my wash-and-run “styling” is still looking better than it ever did before.

Definitely check out Sechoir for a pick-me-up– your scalp will thank you!

A Massage from Massage on Demand!

Last Friday I had such a treat– a massage at my home! Massage on Demand is a wonderful company, and the MODsquad, as they are affectionately called, “services  Metropolitan Los Angeles, Los Angeles’ Westside, the beach cities, South Bay and San Fernando Valley. Our licensed Massage Therapists each have years of experience and are passionate about providing the utmost in wellness, personal and customer care.”  Having a massage in your home is a fantastic treat in itself, but to also put yourself in such capable and experienced hands just makes it so much better, and this really was just a fabulous massage.

I had the Scandle massage, which uses a Scandle Body and Massage Candle. A Scandle Candle is a lotion candle that burns at very low melting point, just above body temperature at about 101-102 degrees, but don’t worry, the candles are warm, not hot. My massage therapist, Jillian, checked with me to make sure that I wasn’t too sensitive to heat, but I never felt any more heat than I would have with a warm shower.

Jillian used the Scandle Essential ’Calming Blend’ for my massage. It consisted of a blend of pure French Lavender essential oils, and I absolutely loved it. It smelled wonderful, and felt amazing to have a warm essential oil massage, but more than that, Jillian was professional, friendly, and an incredibly skilled massuese. I felt as though I could easily drift to sleep during that massage.

The candles are healthy for your skin and the environment. They are all-natural and are made from FDA approved ingredients including shea butter, cosmetic grade soy butter, jojoba, vitamin E, & body safe fragrance or essential oils. The wicks are cotton and don’t contain lead or zinc.

I absolutely recommend Massage on Demand. They are accomodating, friendly, highly professional, and are offering products and services that both matched and exceeded my expectation. Their prices are also very affordable, and they are participating in Spa Week, so indulge in an appointment, and don’t even leave home to enjoy it. :)

Or I highly recommend taking advantage of Spaphile’s Membership Card program.  By purchasing an annual membership, you will be able to get 15% off EVERY time you book (just present your Spaphile card to Massage on Demand therapists).  Check out their Spaphile profile page today: http://spaphile.com/offers/place/massage-on-demand-los-angeles/
